Chuck P's book tips.

CHUCK PALAHNIUK - The surname you can't pronounce.

A few things you need to know about this contemporary American writer and cult figure:

He writes weird shit. Brilliant weird shit. Award-winning weird shit.
He's known as a Transgressive Fiction Writer which basically means his subjects cut loose from society's normal behaviour and expectations and turn to drugs, violence, incest, obscene horrors and so forth.
Other writers of this genre include Marquis de Sade, Dostoevsky, early Gothic authors and William S. Burroughs.
This genre of writing is also of the SPLATTERPUNK style (creepy thrillers with super gory details). I just put that in because I like the word.
His most famous novel is the award-winning Fight Club.
He has mentioned on turning Fight Club into a musical. I can't imagine Ed Norton nor Brad Pitt singing through this violent script. I don't think they could either. How can you sing with a blood capsule in your mouth, getting punched out?

Narrator (Ed Norton) : You're insane. Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) : No, you're insane.

Back to Chuck, the author... born in 1962... first writing job was on manuals on how to fix trucks.
He left writing for a while and volunteered at homeless shelters and a hospice. Good man.
He was nominated for 2 Bram Stoker Awards for his books Lullaby (2002) and Haunted (2005) and his novel Choke was a New York Times bestseller.

I never knew how to pronounce his surname until I watched this clip below.
It's a kooky and fresh way of suggesting new books to read. But it seems perfectly normal for Chuck. No Oscar for his acting though. And no musical version either, thanks. Take a look.
