I've made it as brief as possible, but you've got to read on to realise how cool Julie Newmar is.
Born in LA in 1933 (a Leo), studied all forms of dance, ballet and piano; finished school at 15 and went to live in Europe with her mother and brother. Came back, topped her exams to get into UCLA and moved across into choreography and dancing for the movie studios.
She bedazzled audiences as the temptress in many films, conquered Broadway and moved into TV. Some of her cult highlight roles include:
~ the motorcycle babe on "Route 66" (a role created for her)
~ The Devil on the "Twilight Zone"
~ Rhoda the robot in the cult sitcom "My Living Doll"
~ Ophelia, the Burmese cat familiar in "Bewitched"
~ April the Laundress in "The Monkees Get Out More Dirt"
Apart from screen,
~ she created the Nudemar, a new design in pantyhose which was included in her own chapter in the book "Mothers of Invention"
~ became a Paris model for Thierry Mugler
~ appeared in George Michael's music video "Too Funky"
~ has had a film named after from Stephen Spielberg's company called "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar"
~ an orchid, rose and day lily are all named in her honour
IS SHE NOT AMAZING???
"Beauty is her business" as well as art, design and gardening. When asked what's her secret, she says "It's the inner life that's all important."
Her book, "The Conscious Catwoman Explains Life On Earth" will be released early 2011. Purrrrfect.
