All About Alice

I wonder if Lewis Carrol ever dreamed his story about Alice (Liddell) in her wonderland would cover so many genres."Alice in Wonderland", since it's first release in 1865 has been covered  as a play, silent movie, opera, ballet, porno flick, animation and even as a goth-toned murder mystery musical by a philosophical Czech director whose accents I can't display here but you can google "Aspects of Alice".  Tom Waits has something to do with it too. Somehow, I care only for the sweet, innocent Alice as a young girl with her healthy, sweet and insatiable curiosity. To think she would be bandied in a 70s porno film is as bad as Lindsay Lohan wishing to be cast as Alice in Tim Burton's flick. (No offence Lindsay, but you've cast your net in different directions. You make that work for you. As you do).
I love that an unknown actresss, Mia Wasikowska, a girl from Canberra (most boring and political capital of Australia) would be the chosen Alice. Yay! I say! I want someone semi-unknown in Burton's genius vision to pull it all together.  A girl from Canberra. Isn't she beautiful and  a perfect cast? (see Above).
Have a look at the trailer and be excited....

We all know the wonderful Disney version but did you ever see the Annie Liebowitz 2003 shoot for US VOGUE starring Natalia Vodianova as "Alice"? Liebowitz must have had a field day casting the characters, some of which include Galliano (the Queen), Marc Jacobs (the Caterpillar), Karl Lagerfeld (a visiting royal),  Jean Paul Gaultier (the Cat) and my personal fave, Viktor and Rolf as Tweedledum and Tweedledee (see below). How cool is that?!

Expect a fountain of "Alice" aligned stories in fashion, beauty, perfume, industrial design and homewares from the film release date 5 March 2010. It's inevitable as companies jump on and embrace the cult and merchandising bandwagon.

Beauty wise, for instance, we're going to see a whole range of new colours at our favourite OPI nail salons with "Alice" styled names. And what about maquillage? Heaven forbid blue eyeshadow (wear softly, think "hint of" rather than that large secretary on "The Drew Carey Show"). Check out the colour palette from Urban Decay.com (below). Available on their site from 15 Jan 2010. After that, go to Sephora. But look at these shadows! We love "Midnight Tea Party" accented with "White Rabbit". The rest is just play time! Gimme.

Alice:  This is impossible!
The Mad Hatter: Only if you believe it dear!

A friend who works at MTV told me that the press release kit for the film was the coolest ever: a book within a book within a book within a book until the smallest book held a key which had the USB with the film release details. Love it, Disney.

Let's keep each other posted. See you in March xox
